How to make sex less painful?

I'm not a virgin and I've had sex with a few guys but my current partner is quite big down there and it hurts a bit when we have sex? I've told him and he's always really gentle and slow but it still hurts me? And does it make much difference that I work out and dance regulary? I do have quite a tight vagina even putting a finger in I find uncomfortable, I've heard athletic girls have tighter vaginas is it true? And what can we do to make it more comfortable for me?

Use lots of lube and have tons of foreplay. Other than that, there isn't much you can do.
