How does sex work disrupt patriarchal power?

I took this People in Society class and the prof just told us to think about this question and i found it quite interesting.

There is one theory that suggests that women who choose to be in the sex trade are taking control of their bodies in a manner which stands in the face of the patriarchal notion that a woman should give over her body to a single man - her husband. Or that men should otherwise be in control or in charge of a woman's body. I don't think that is the case in most instances, however, where prostitution is legalized and regulated, such a notion has merit.
